Really adds the the historical value of Oswald's work. There are many things I would like to come over and see in your part of the world before I leave the planet. ~nppnonprofitprophethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03889049085562402639noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7281533930640163594.post-85391866738408036442008-03-25T08:35:00.000-05:002008-03-25T08:35:00.000-05:00My step-grandfather used Oswald Chambers for years...My step-grandfather used Oswald Chambers for years, and gave copies to many people. Around the time of WWII some of Chambers' works were very hard to get hold of so he tracked down Oswald's widow, who wrote to him several times and helped him get hold of some of his books.

My step-grandfather was a lay-preacher in Gloucestershire for meany years (1950s-80s), and his sermons frequently quoted Chambers. That Hideous Manhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12076125326851070568noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7281533930640163594.post-7644976211444689742008-02-15T16:09:00.000-06:002008-02-15T16:09:00.000-06:00Ole' Oswald, huh. I've found that it's stuck with me throughout my bureaucratic day, which is good. It's also having some (minor) impact on my behaviour - ever so slightly less grumpy!!

I haven't read Oswald Chambers, but I'm currently enjoying some Abraham Joshua Heschel (as you might see from my blog!)Les (Endlessly Restless)https://www.blogger.com/profile/00973835208897357154noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7281533930640163594.post-73278536633669163222008-02-14T15:37:00.000-06:002008-02-14T15:37:00.000-06:00I understand. Since that time, when I reread it (like Mere Christianity) I get somethign new and inspiring from it every time. Damn it. I even gave a friend of mine who was starting on a spiritual journey a copy of this book. In my "fundie" days, an older man gave it to me to read daily for spiritual nourishment. I threw that copy away a few years ago ... carried messy energy that wasn't part of my spiritual journey anymore.

Bottom line: Now I feel compelled to go buy a new copy of it and start over ... on my OWN terms.

Thanks for sharing this part of your journey.

Blessings,

JoeJoe Rutlandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14961569147039000262noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7281533930640163594.post-65877804645119064982008-02-14T10:59:00.000-06:002008-02-14T10:59:00.000-06:00This comment has been removed by the author.Joe Rutlandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14961569147039000262noreply@blogger.com
